EMDR

2304378883Traumatic symptoms are at the helm of your life.

Since the trauma, you have been living with physical symptoms of pain, sweating, nausea, and sometimes trembling.

You have been going to different medical doctors to discover what could be wrong. They tell you that your physical exam and blood work are all within normal limits.

The doctors’ comments baffle you to the core! As a result, you begin to wonder if the intrusive thoughts, nightmares, and vivid flashbacks reminding you of the traumatic experience you lived through have something to do with it.

You are on emotional overload.

Every day you battle feelings of nervousness, fear, helplessness, and sadness, and then, you get an outburst of irritability and anger.

Feeling this way is exhausting. You have no more bandwidth to continue at this pace and have used up all your PTO at work.

Isolation and losing interest in going out with friends have become the norm because you are frightened of what can happen next.

A time-based traumatic event can affect people differently, sometimes causing an emotional and physical response.

If trauma persists, an individual can have nightmares, be unable to sleep, feel panicky, and feel hopeless.

PTSD (Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder) is a longer-term condition where you continue to have flashbacks and re-experience traumatic events. Avoidance behavior can accompany PTSD, making individuals avoid thoughts and situations that remind them of the traumatic experience.

If left unchecked, both trauma and PTSD can impact a person’s overall mental health.

EMDR is a proven approach to treating trauma.

EMDR represents an extensively studied method for treating long-lasting trauma. Research has proven EMDR to be an effective technique to help you recover from trauma and PTSD symptoms.

EMDR is a controlled therapeutic approach that encourages you to focus briefly on the traumatic memory while simultaneously undergoing bilateral stimulation, typically via eye movements or tapping.

Rosa* is an excellent example of how EMDR can help a person reprocess a traumatic experience. Rosa came to my virtual practice looking for help to heal from some heavy issues after becoming a mom to a daughter with special medical needs.

EMDR helped Rosa get to the root of her flashbacks and panic attacks. She was able to reprocess the way she remembered her daughter’s birth. Her symptoms of fear, sadness, helplessness, and nightmares all dissipated.

Rosa is now living more peacefully and enjoying her daughter to the fullest. When her daughter needs to go to the hospital, she can function and respond effectively to her daughters’ needs.
